Usually the most important power lithium batteries we say are lithium iron phosphate batteries, lithium manganate batteries, lithium cobalt oxide batteries and ternary lithium ion batteries. So, what are the classifications of lithium-ion batteries?
1. Lithium-ion batteries are usually divided into two categories according to internal materials
Lithium metal battery: Lithium metal batteries generally use manganese dioxide as the positive electrode material, metal lithium or its alloy metal as the negative electrode material, and use a non-aqueous electrolyte.
Lithium-ion batteries: Lithium-ion batteries generally use lithium alloy metal oxides as the positive electrode material, graphite as the negative electrode material, and use a non-aqueous electrolyte.
Although lithium metal batteries have high energy density, they can theoretically reach 3860 watts/kg. However, due to its unstable nature, it cannot be recharged and cannot be reused as a power lithium battery. Lithium-ion batteries have developed into an important power lithium battery due to their ability to be recharged repeatedly. However, due to the combination of different elements, the composition of the cathode material varies greatly in performance in various aspects, resulting in increased controversy over the cathode material route in the industry.
2. Classification by use
The first is digital lithium-ion batteries, which are our daily mobile phones, tablets, mobile power supplies, etc. These are all digital batteries.
The second is the power lithium-ion battery, which is used by Tesla, BYD, some new energy electric vehicles, and drones. These batteries require a large instantaneous current, and digital batteries cannot meet the instantaneous high current. Therefore, this kind of battery is also called high-rate battery, which is more expensive than digital battery.
3. Classification by shell material
The first category, steel shell batteries, as the name suggests, is that the shell is made of steel.
The second type, the aluminum shell battery, also has an aluminum shell.
The third type is the polymer lithium-ion battery. The shell is made of polymer material, mostly silver, and a few manufacturers make it black, and the industry has become black.
4. Classification by shape
The first is cylindrical batteries, which are used more, such as 18650, 26650, etc. This is generally used in combination, and those with less combination can be used as digital products, like early notebook computers, generally 8 18650, mobile phone power, the combination is from 1 to 1 There are more than 7,000 series and parallel combinations of Tesla's 18650.
The second is a square battery, mostly a polymer battery. Because this polymer has good ductility, it can be made into a variety of shapes, and the length, width and height can be adjusted at will. Most digital products now use this type of battery.
